Consumer Reports has given its No. 1 ranking and “Best Buy” rating to Bosch dishwashers in its most recent edition. Six models of the German-engineered appliances were featured on the magazine’s recommended list.

Bosch entered the dishwasher market in 1991. The Irvine, Calif.-based manufacturer makes an assortment of models that range from an all-plastic tub to a fully featured stainless steel tub.

Newell Rubbermaid announced the expansion of its office in Shanghai as the company continues to drive its Growth Game Plan. The expanded Shanghai office currently houses nearly 200 employees, with additional capacity for future growth.

Building materials manufacturer CertainTeed has announced its intention to form a joint venture with Bailey Metal Products of Concord, Ontario, to manufacture suspended ceiling grid in Canada and the United States. Bailey Metal Products is Canada's largest lightweight steel framing manufacturer and a leading provider of drywall trims and accessories.

Edison, N.J.-based Super Stud Building Products said it is collaborating with Drywall Specialties on the Patrick Taylor Science and Technology Regional Academy expansion in Jefferson, La.

Nearly $300,000 worth of steel framing products, including The EDGE Steel Framing System, is being used to create the expansion.

The United States enacted the antidumping law to protect U.S. manufacturing companies from “unfair” imports, but the real impact of the law is to bankrupt legitimate U.S. companies and destroy U.S. jobs.

Edison, N.J.-based Starborn Industries, a manufacturer and distributor of fastening products, introduced Deckfast Metal for the fast-growing market of steel joist deck framing systems.

The company said more architects and deck builders are using metal joist substructures when creating decks. Deckfast Metal is a fastener that can be used to attach every type of decking -- PVC, composite, capstock and hardwood -- to steel and aluminum substructures.

What began quite innocently as a pet project turned into a national movement for Anders Lewendal, the Bozeman, Mont., builder who has since gained wide acclaim for constructing a house made entirely from U.S.-made products.

Initially, Lewendal set out to build an “efficient, affordable and environmentally healthy” home for a client whose daughter has cystic fibrosis. In researching the building materials and parts required for the project, Lewendal was struck with this idea: Why not go for all-American parts and materials.

Nucor Corp. will close its Nuconsteel division and no longer fabricate light gauge steel framing used in residential and commercial structures, the company has announced. Nuconsteel has operations in Denton, Texas, and Dallas, Ga.

Nucor entered the light gauge steel framing business in November 2001 with the acquisition of Itec Steel, which became Nuconsteel shortly thereafter. Nucor expects to close Nuconsteel's facilities in the spring of 2012, after meeting current customer contractual obligations.

Wilmington, Ohio-based TimberTech expanded its fastening options by rolling out a stainless steel TopLoc fastener. 

Most coastal regions require stainless steel fasteners to reduce the likelihood of corrosion that leads to rot and failure, according to the company. Stainless steel is able to withstand more inclement weather because it is less brittle than carbon steel.

DeWalt unveiled its 15-ounce Framing Hammer with an innovative construction process that combines an all-steel head with a lightweight hammer.

During the company's new product luncheon at the Westin Times Square, Dennis Danville, leader of DeWalt's assembly demolition business unit, said the hammers employ MIG Weld Technology to lower the weight of the hammer head.
