Seeing opportunity in China for brands such as Irwin, Dymo and Lenox, Newell Rubbermaid pushes what it calls a "Growth Game Plan." 

Newell Rubbermaid announced the expansion of its office in Shanghai as the company continues to drive its Growth Game Plan. The expanded Shanghai office currently houses nearly 200 employees, with additional capacity for future growth. 

Edison, N.J.-based Super Stud Building Products said it is collaborating with Drywall Specialties on the Patrick Taylor Science and Technology Regional Academy expansion in Jefferson, La.

Nearly $300,000 worth of steel framing products, including The EDGE Steel Framing System, is being used to create the expansion.

Wallingford, Conn.-based Danver Stainless Steel Cabinetry, maker of stainless steel outdoor cabinetry and amenities for outdoor living, rolled out the ASKO Outdoor Dishwasher. ASKO is the latest addition to the company’s one-stop shopping approach to outdoor kitchens, living and entertainment centers. 

Edison, N.J.-based Starborn Industries, a manufacturer and distributor of fastening products, introduced Deckfast Metal for the fast-growing market of steel joist deck framing systems.

The company said more architects and deck builders are using metal joist substructures when creating decks. Deckfast Metal is a fastener that can be used to attach every type of decking -- PVC, composite, capstock and hardwood -- to steel and aluminum substructures.

What began quite innocently as a pet project turned into a national movement for Anders Lewendal, the Bozeman, Mont., builder who has since gained wide acclaim for constructing a house made entirely from U.S.-made products.

Initially, Lewendal set out to build an “efficient, affordable and environmentally healthy” home for a client whose daughter has cystic fibrosis. In researching the building materials and parts required for the project, Lewendal was struck with this idea: Why not go for all-American parts and materials.

Rhino Steel Building Systems will halt the sale of its steel-framed homes as of Jan. 9, the company announced. A leading provider of pre-engineered and custom steel buildings, Rhino Steel Building Systems was founded in 1988 and partners with upstream steel manufacturers. With the changes in the economy, stability from suppliers and consumer behavior, Rhino Steel Building Systems is stopping all sales of new steel-framed homes but will continue to provide customer service to its current list of customers.

Nucor Corp. will close its Nuconsteel division and no longer fabricate light gauge steel framing used in residential and commercial structures, the company has announced. Nuconsteel has operations in Denton, Texas, and Dallas, Ga.

Nucor entered the light gauge steel framing business in November 2001 with the acquisition of Itec Steel, which became Nuconsteel shortly thereafter. Nucor expects to close Nuconsteel's facilities in the spring of 2012, after meeting current customer contractual obligations.

DeWalt unveiled its 15-ounce Framing Hammer with an innovative construction process that combines an all-steel head with a lightweight hammer.

During the company's new product luncheon at the Westin Times Square, Dennis Danville, leader of DeWalt's assembly demolition business unit, said the hammers employ MIG Weld Technology to lower the weight of the hammer head. 

Brick, N.J.-based Manasquan Premium Fasteners, a provider of stainless steel fasteners to the residential, commercial and marine construction industries, has expanded its inventory with product offerings from Starborn Industries and Simpson Strong-Tie, as well as the addition of six lobe star drive stainless steel screws for wood and composites.
