Beloit, Wis. -- Steve Reuter has been named executive director of American Construction Metals, a business unit of ABC Supply.

ACM is a manufacturer of metal roofing, siding, rainware and related products. In this newly created position, Reuter will be responsible for the strategic direction and financial performance of ACM and its four manufacturing plants.

The maximum allowed pretax mass-transit benefit for employees fell from $245 per month in 2013 to $130 in 2014, beginning Jan. 1.

Employees can deduct commuting costs from their paychecks, tax free, through an employer benefit program up to the allowable monthly limit. Similarly, organizations that subsidize their employees’ commuting costs may do so up to the allowable limit, which results in lower payroll taxes than if they paid the money in wages.

After serving on the board of directors for several years, Paula Calimafde has been named the new executive director of the Small Business Legislative Council.

Calimafde is a principal with Bethesda, Md., law firm Paley Rothman. She replaces John Satagaj, who retired. 

The SBLC is a non-profit group representing the interests of small privately owned businesses in several areas, including taxation and health care.

Safe Electricity, an Energy Education Council organization, has put out its list of top five safety-oriented gift picks for the year, encouraging retailers to stock their shelves with pragmatic products this holiday season.

Beloit, Wis.-based ABC Supply, operator of 450 branches in 45 states, named Tony Vaden as chief information officer.

Vaden replaces Kathy Hendricks, who moved to a newly created post as executive director of customer connectivity for ABC Supply.

Vaden is an award-winning veteran of the information technology industry, and he will oversee all aspects of the information technology systems that support the company’s computing needs.

Kathy Hendricks, who had overseen ABC Supply’s information technology function for 28 years, most recently as VP and chief information officer, has been named to the newly created position of executive director of customer connectivity.

In her new role, she will lead ABC Supply’s strategic initiative to design, develop and implement the new information technology services and solutions that will connect ABC Supply to its customers and make it easier for its customers to run their businesses.

According to multiple media reports, the federal raid on two of Lumber Liquidators' Virginia locations last month has been linked to the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA).

The Washington-based environmental advocacy group spent three years mounting its case against the retailer, claiming it purchased wood from protected forests in eastern Russia through a Chinese-owned supplier. The forests in question are home to the endangered Siberian tiger.

Georgia Foley has been the executive director of the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association (STAFDA) since 2000, but her involvement with the trade organization dates to when she was barely a teenager, when she helped her father — founder Morrie Halvorsen — run the operation out of the family basement.

Through the years, Foley has seen membership grow in numbers and stature even though STAFDA has maintained the same dues rates it first established in 1977.

The California State Water Resources Control Board is proposing new regulations on stormwater runoff and containment that the Lumber Association of California & Nevada (LACN) has called "controversial, costly and unfair."

According to Ken Dunham, LACN executive director, the regulations affect lumberyards and any business with a physical outside yard. LACN Government Affairs Chair and LACN Second VP Augie Venezia presented his views and those of the LACN at an Aug. 17 workshop organized by the Water Resources Control Board.

The Earth Advantage Institute announced its annual selection of top ten green building trends, which range from “affordable green” to lifecycle analysis of materials.
