Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser was honored with a Jefferson Award for outstanding service.

Founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Senator Robert Taft Jr., and Sam Beard, the Jefferson Awards are considered a "Nobel Prize" for public service in the United States.  The organization annually recognizes outstanding individual contributors to society. Each year, one corporation is also honored for outstanding service.

Federal Way, Washington-based Weyerhaeuser has appointed Jeff Rettig to the role of U.S. sales director for its Tru Joist Engineered Lumber division.

With over 25 years of experience in the building products industry -- 14 of which he has spent with Weyerhaeuser -- Rettig has worked in virtually all aspects of the business, including construction, retail and wholesale distribution.

Federal Way, Washington-based Weyerhaeuser introduced SturdiStep stair treads as an alternative to pine.

SturdiStep treads are manufactured to be flat, straight, precise and free of knots, and they are the only wood stair treads to carry a warranty (30 years) against delamination, cupping, warping and splitting.

Former Weyerhaeuser unit Northwest Hardwoods is reportedly up for sale again by American Industrial Partners, the same private equity firm that bought the company in 2011.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, American Industrial Partners has hired bankers at Goldman Sachs to market the company.

Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser reported first-quarter sales of $1.984 billion, up slightly from $1.951 billion in the first quarter last year.

“Despite unusually severe winter weather, we delivered strong operating results in the quarter," said Doyle Simons, president and CEO. "Our Timberlands business is realizing increasing benefits from the Longview Timber acquisition and reported its highest quarterly earnings, excluding land sales since 2006."

Forest products giant Weyerhaeuser says it will reorder its leadership team this summer.

Current SVP, general counsel Sandy McDade is retiring in July. Succeeding her will be Devin Stockfish, who will also maintain his current role as corporate secretary. Stockfish has been serving as corporate secretary and assistant general counsel since last June. Before joining the company, he was VP & associate general counsel at Univar Inc.

Also retiring is Sara Kendall, VP corporate affairs and sustainability, on May 2.

Weyerhaeuser Distribution is buffing up its James Hardie fiber cement siding offerings at its St. Paul, Minn. location. 

The distribution center will now carry the full line of SKUs, which includes the addition of ColorPlus technology, a factory-applied finish that lasts up to two times longer and has 30% better fade resistance.

The full line includes HardiePlank siding, HardiePanel siding, HardieShingle siding, HardieSoffit panels, HardieTrim boards and HardieBacker cement board.

Enlow is joining the company from Rayonier. In his most recent role, he served as director of the Atlantic and Northern Timberlands regions.

Las Vegas -- Weyerhaeuser CEO Doyle Simons says he's encouraged by the recovery in the home-building  and LBM industries. But it's too early celebrate. 

In an interview with HCN in the Weyerhaeuser booth at the International Builders' Show here, Simons also talked about the importance of product innovation and market education.

Weyerhaeuser (WY) was down 2.89% on Friday following the release of its earnings report, which demonstrated substantial year-over-year growth but fell below previous estimates.

Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser posted net earnings of $540 million for the full year 2013, up from $385 million in 2012. 

Net sales for the year were $8.5 billion, up from $7.1 billion in 2012.

The company noted that in 2013 it doubled earnings before special items, increased its per share dividend by nearly 30% and announced a deal to combine its real estate operation with TRI Pointe Homes. It also acquired about 645,000 acres of timberlands in the Pacific Northwest through the purchase of Longview Timber.

Weyerhaeuser has named Rhonda Hunter SVP Timberlands, succeeding soon-to-be-retired Tom Gideon.

Effective Jan. 1, 2014, Hunter will be officially promoted from her current role as VP of Weyerhaeuser's Southern Timberlands operation, which she's held since 2010. Previously, she held other leadership roles within the division, which involved planning and inventory, regional management, environmental and work systems, finance and land acquisition. She has been with the company since 1987.

Weyerhaeuser reported net earnings of $157 million for the third quarter, compared with net earnings of $117 million for the same period last year.

Net sales for the third quarter totaled $2.2 billion, compared with net sales of $1.8 billion for the third quarter of 2012.

ELKIN, N.C. — The Weyerhaeuser mill in Elkin, N.C., is a classic Made-in-the-USA manufacturing story.

Raw material in the form of “stumpage” — the mill executive’s term for “logs”— lines up at one end of the 186 million-sq.-ft. facility. Rolling out at the other end are neatly stacked and wrapped pallets of Weyerhaeuser Edge OSB, as well as Weyerhaeuser Edge Gold (photo 1).

Even while demand accelerates for homegrown products, the FCC requirements for advertising Made-in-USA products remain shrouded in ambiguity.

Boise Cascade Company has purchased Wood Resources LLC's Southeast Operations for $102 million.

The acquisition deal includes Chester, S.C.-based Chester Wood Products LLC, a producer of softwood plywood panels and veneer, as well as Moncure Plywood LLC, a flexible specialty plywood mill in Moncure, N.C.

Wood Resources had previously acquired the two entities in 2004 from Weyerhaeuser, at which time their prospects were uncertain. Financial performance and output has since improved.

Weyerhaeuser has increased production of its new Trus Joist TJI joists with Flak Jacket protection, which feature a specialty coating that enhances the joists’ fire resistance. By upgrading to more advanced, high-tech manufacturing techniques and adding an extra shift at its Boise, Idaho, facility, the company has significantly expanded its capacity to meet growing demand for the innovative product line, as well as accommodate ongoing improvement in the single- and multi-family housing markets.

Weyerhaeuser will begin plans to restart production on its Trus Joist TJI joists and Microllam LVL lines in Evergreen, Ala., effective immediately.

The company will be investing capital in the engineered lumber products facility after a four-year closure due to weak wood products demand in North America. The company plans to hire 100 new employees at the facility by the end of 2014. Robert Doll will be plant manager and will be on site effective Aug. 30.

Weyerhaeuser has announced several changes to its senior management team.

Cathy Slater has been named senior VP Oriented Strand Board, Engineered Lumber Products and Distribution, effective immediately. Slater brings more than 25 years of forest industry experience, including leadership positions in the company’s Cellulose Fibers and Wood Products businesses.
