Just days after buying an interest in a Texas sawmill operator, Universal Forest Products has made another acquisition, this one in North Carolina.

UFPI announced that one of its subsidiaries has purchased assets of High Level Components, a building component manufacturer based in Locust, N.C. The deal closed March 31.

A subsidiary of Universal Forest Products has purchased a 50% ownership interest in Upshur Forest Products, which owns sawmill operations in Gilmer, Texas.

According to a statement released by UFPI Monday, the acquisition will help expand the company's footprint in East Texas and western Louisiana, supplying raw material to nearby UFPI affiliates and to new industrial operations that will be established at one of the mill locations.

Ringdale, Inc, the Georgetown, Texas-based ActiveLED manufacturer, has launched a new LED exterior luminary called the ActiveLED Horseshoe Bay Lantern.

The post-top fixture is an enery-efficient, high-performance alternative to 150-watt lamps, with energy savings of 50-80% compared to other solutions, the company says.

"At Ringdale, we are seeing an evolution in LED projects," said president Klaus Bollmann. "Customers that were once focused on changing out primary lighting are now converting more specialized or decorative lighting areas."

CatchMark Timber Trust, Inc. is moving forward with its purchase of 36,340 acres of timberland from Hancock Timber Resource Group, located in the Waycross-Panola properties of Southeast Georgia and East Texas.

CatchMark is also acquiring approximately 1.45 million tons of merchantable timber inventory and increasing the share of higher value chip-n-saw and sawtimber in its product mix. The inventory comprises 84% pine plantations by acreage and 54% sawtimber by tons.

The Artisan Group is a member organization of stone fabricators in North America that serves as a leader in the granite and surface fabrication industry.

Houston -- Ace executives took the stage to deliver rousing speeches at the General Session of the Ace 2014 Spring Convention & Exhibits, congratulating retailers on a strong 2013 and outlining the co-op's vision for 2014 and beyond.

Ace even had a proprietary rock 'n' roll theme song dedicated to its strategic initiative, "20/20 Vision," which added a spirited component to a slide show presented at the session. "The view is worth the climb," crooned the singer.

Meagan McCoy Jones has been promoted to senior VP and chief operating officer at McCoy’s Building Supply. James Lewallen has been appointed to the newly created position of VP culture and customer experience, and Waylon Walker has been promoted to VP store operations.

Parker Do it Best Lumber, based in Beaumont, Texas, was chosen as a 2014 pro dealer Entrepreneur of the Year in the category of sales of over $50 million. 

Parker Lumber has been serving builders, remodelers and homeowners for more than 80 years in Texas and now southern California. Scott Parker runs the family-owned company that employs 350 people throughout 22 locations. 

Parker’s continued growth into new markets is cited as a key factor for its success.

Forth Worth, Texas-based homebuilder D.R. Horton, Inc. reported robust growth in the first quarter of fiscal 2014, with net income up 86% year-over-year.

Homebuilding revenue for the first quarter ended Dec. 31, 2013 was up 33% to $1.63 billion since the first quarter of last year. Additionally, home closings were up 19%. In total, net revenue was $1.64 billion, compared to $1.23 billion year-over-year.

Net income came in at $123.2 million, up dramatically since last year's $66.3 million.

Rent-A-Center opened its newest location in Saginaw, Texas, located at 522 S. Saginaw Blvd.

Based in Plano, Texas, Rent-A-Center operates 275 locations in the state of Texas. The chain has more than 3,000 stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico.

As part of its opening ceremony, the store contributed $1,000 to Community Link Mission during today’s grand-opening ceremony.

Intech Equipment & Supply, a Phoenix-based roofing and insulation equipment provider, has hired Dennis Alter as southeast technical service manager.

Alter will be based in the company's Madison, Ga. location and will support its five full service branches in California, Texas, Arizona, Missouri and Arkansas, as well as coverage for some other southeastern states.

The Tile Shop has announced its plans to open its first-ever super store in San Antonio.

This entails a 31,200-sq.ft. space -- its biggest in the country -- which compares with its usual average of 23,000-sq.-ft. retail locations. The super store will feature a selection of 4,500 stone and tile products.

Carl Randazzo, SVP retail for The Tile Shop, said that the additional square footage allows for an expansion of the retailer's product presentation.

AAON Coil Products received the Employer Award of Excellence for the Workforce Solutions East Texas area at the 17th Annual Texas Workforce Conference.

Longview, Texas-based AAON Coil Products is a subsidiary of AAON, which manufactures heating and cooling products. 

AAON's East Texas facility has more than 300 employees and has been an active participant in the WorkKeys initiative for the East Texas board.

Andersen Windows is celebrating the production of its 1-millionth 100 Series window in Garland, Texas, which it introduced a mere four years ago.

The company held an event at the Garland facility with its 400 employees to ring in the milestone. There, a commemorative window was passed around for employees to sign, which will be handed off to Texas Door and Trim, one of the company's largest Texas dealers.

IKEA has installed three Blink electric vehicle charging stations at its Frisco, Texas, store location, marking the tenth IKEA store in the United States to expand the service.

Drivers using the service can simply tap their Blink InCard, plug the charger into the station and shop at IKEA while they wait.

At the moment, installation is under way at seven other IKEA locations, with a current planned total of 55.
