Dan Russell Coleman was a lumber industry executive, community leader, Air Force veteran and father. He died at his home in Victoria, Texas, May 25 at the age of 82.

According to his obituary notice, he was born in Waxahachie, Texas on May 8, 1931 and moved to Victoria, Texas in 1936, when his father accepted a management position with Zarsky Lumber Co.

USG Corp. has achieved the prestigious Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star designation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) at its Galena Park, Texas, manufacturing plant. Officials from OSHA presented the award on Nov. 29 to USG Galena Park’s 150 employees during a ceremony at the plant.

Oklahoma City-based distributor Cedar Creek has entered into an agreement to purchase the assets of Capital Lumber’s distribution locations in Dallas and Houston. 

In a deal expected to close Nov. 30, Capital Lumber will continue to operate eight other non-Texas distribution centers and focus on the western United States.

At a gathering of 200 pro dealers and suppliers in Savannah, Ga., the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) board of directors introduced a new leadership team headed by Chuck Bankston, president of Bankston Lumber in Barnesville, Ga. The Oct. 24 installation was held during the ProDealer Industry Summit, a three-day event jointly sponsored by the NLBMDA and Home Channel News.
