Retail sales slip in June

The U.S. Census Bureau announced that advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for June, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $401.5 billion, down 0.5% from the previous month, but 3.8% above June 2011.

Total sales for the April through June 2012 period were up 4.7% from the same period a year ago.

Compared with last year, retail sales are rising

The U.S. Census Bureau announced Wednesday that advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for August were virtually unchanged from the previous month, and up 7.2% from the month last year.

Adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, August sales were an estimated  $389.5 billion. Total sales for the June through August 2011 period were up 7.9% from the same period a year ago.

Retail sales hold steady in June

The nation's retailers showed a sales increase of 0.1% in June, according to the Advance Monthly Sales report released Thursday morning by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, June sales were estimated at $387.8 billion, an increase of 0.1% from the previous month. Compared with the same month last year, total sales were up 8.1%.
