Lubricant maker WD-40 Co. reported net sales of $84.9 million for its fourth fiscal quarter, a decrease of 6% from the same quarter last year. Net income for the fourth quarter, which ended Aug. 31, 2012, was $9.0 million, a decrease of 12% compared with the prior year fiscal quarter.

Year-to-date figures reported by the San Diego-based company were $342.8 million in net sales, up 2% from the prior fiscal year. Year-to-date net income was $35.5 million, a decrease of 3% from the prior fiscal year.

San Diego-based WD-40, whose brands include a variety of lubricants and cleaning products, reported net sales of $87.0 million for the third quarter of fiscal 2012, an increase of 2% from the same quarter of its last fiscal year. Year-to-date net sales were $257.9 million, up 5% from the same period last fiscal year.

Net income for the third quarter was $9.1 million, an increase of 13% compared with the prior-year fiscal quarter. Year-to-date net income was $26.5 million, an increase of 1% from a year ago.

The company posted sales of $86.0 million for the quarter. Net income for the quarter was $10.6 million, an increase of 16% compared to the same quarter last year.

A settlement to a class-action lawsuit launched against grill-manufacturer Weber over its “Made-in-USA” claims is heading to a final approval hearing July 20 in San Diego. 

The original lawsuit filed in February last year alleged that Weber violated the law by designating Weber grills and certain accessories as "Made in USA."

A San-Diego area man will be sentenced to seven years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to nine felonies that include making fraudulent purchases at Home Depot stores. According to a story reported by the City News Service, Joel Booth, age 39, used counterfeit checks and identification cards to purchase items at a number of Home Depot stores in San Diego and Riverside counties. Police investigators nicknamed him “The Homer Bandit,” after Home Depot’s original mascot.

Financial uncertainty cast a shadow over the results of San Diego-based WD-40 Co., which posted mixed results in the first quarter of 2012.

The lubricant and all-purpose maintenance product manufacturer posted net sales for the quarter ended Nov. 30 of $84.9 million, up 5% from the same period last year. Earnings, however, declined 25% to $6.8 million.

San Diego-based WD-40 Co. declared a 7% increase of its regular quarterly dividend to $.29 per share, payable Jan. 31, 2012.

The announcement came its annual meeting Dec. 13. The board of directors also authorized an open-ended buyback of shared up to $50.0 million over the next two years. IN addition to WD-40, the company's brands include 3-in-one, Blue Works, X-14, Carpet Fresh and Spot Shot.

Net income for the quarter, which ended Aug. 31, was $10.2 million, an increase of 48% compared with the prior-year fiscal quarter.
