Raleigh, North Carolina-based Stock Building Supply opened two new structural component plants, one in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, market and the other near Salt Lake City. 

In Middlesex, North Carolina, production of roof and floor trusses recently began in a 36,000-sq.-ft. location. This facility will join existing store and distribution locations in Raleigh, Apex, Johnston County and Franklin County to serve Raleigh-Durham and adjacent markets in North Carolina.

Raleigh, N.C.-based Stock Building Supply posted double-digit sales gains in the first quarter, as the company's loss narrowed. 

Net sales were up 12.6% to $280 million, compared with $248.7 million in last year's first quarter. The company's net loss of $3.3 million compared with a net loss of $4.1 million in the same period last year. 

Stock's sales growth was heavy on repair and remodeling, which accounted for sales gains of 17.3%. Sales to single-family home builders increased 9.0%.

Citing a housing market recovery, Raleigh, N.C.-based Stock Building Supply saw net sales increase 21% in the fourth quarter to $305.2 million. 

Stock CEO Jeff Rea added that the future looks bright. “As we look ahead to 2014, we are encouraged by macro-economic trends that generally support growth in residential new construction and remodeling activity.”

The company reported fourth-quarter income of $2.96 million, compared to a loss of $4.88 million in the same quarter last year.

Professional Builders Supply was ranked fifth in the Triangle Business Journal’s 2013 “Fast 50” list of fastest-growing companies in the Raleigh-Durham area.  

Professional Builders Supply was ranked No. 19 in 2012. This is the sixth time the company has been included in the list. 

Professional Builders Supply operates in the North Carolina cities of Morrisville, Wilmington and Charlotte, plus a satellite office in Wake Forest.

Fresh after completing its initial public offering on Aug. 14, Raleigh, N.C.-based Stock Building Supply posted mixed results for the third quarter. The pro dealer reported a net loss of $5.5 million in the third quarter ended Sept. 30. However, sales were up 28.4% to $328.5 million, compared with $255.8 million in the same period last year.

Raleigh, N.C.-based pro dealer Stock Building Supply Holdings set its initial public offering pricing at $14 per share.

The company said it expects to receive proceeds, net of underwriting discounts and commissions, of approximately $57.4 million from the offering. Stock said it intends to use the proceeds to pay about $46.2 million of the outstanding balances under the revolving line of credit under its secured credit agreement and to pay fees and expenses related to the offering.

No matter how you slice them, the numbers of the HCN Top 300 Industry Scoreboard reflect the rising housing market, increased spending on the home and an easy comparison with the previous year's performance.

Of the leading 300 home channel retailers, 277 show positive sales in the most recently completed finished fiscal year, and 12 show declines. Eleven others are listed as flat.

Stock Building Supply and Masonite are the two newest members of the Home Improvement Research Institute.

The new additions bring membership of the non-profit, research-driven Home Improvement Research Institute to 75.

Stock Building Supply is a Raleigh, N.C.-based pro dealer with 48 retail and distribution locations in 13 states. Masonite, based in Tampa, Fla., is a designer and manufacturer of interior and exterior doors.

Raleigh, N.C.-based Stock Building Supply Holdings announced a plan Friday afternoon to go public.

The number of shares to be offered and the price range for the offering have not yet been determined.

Some of the biggest names on Wall Street are lined up to assist the transaction. Goldman, Sachs & Co., Barclays Capital Inc. and Citigroup Global Markets Inc. will serve as joint bookrunning managers in the proposed offering. Robert W. Baird & Co. Incorporated will act as lead comanager, and Stephens Inc. and Wells Fargo Securities will act as co-managers.

Natchez, Miss.-based Central Network Retail Group, LLC (CNRG) opened a new Town & Country Hardware store in Benson, N.C., just south of Raleigh.

The company now operates nine stores in the Raleigh/Chapel Hill area.

The new store has a 6,200-sq.-ft. sales floor and a 3,200-sq.-ft. garden center. The store features a broad assortment of hardware, lawn and garden, outdoor living, paint, electrical, plumbing and home organization products.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

FMI, the Raleigh, N.C.-based provider of management consulting and investment banking to the engineering and construction industry, has forecast an 8% increase in construction activity for 2013. Robust growth in residential construction, as well as a few strong markets in nonresidential and non-building construction, will contribute to the expansion, the report said.

Natchez, Miss.-based Central Network Retail Group (CNRG) added Chapel Hill, N.C.-based Town & Country Hardware as a new partner.

Town & Country Hardware operates eight hardware stores in the North Carolina cities of Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Cary. Craig Ward, president of Town & Country Hardware, has also been added to the board of directors at CNRG.

Stock Building Supply has confirmed its plans, outlined in an April 1 memo to employees, to reorganize the company into four divisions and eliminate two top executive positions. 

The Raleigh, N.C., pro dealer will no longer have a chief operating officer or VP national sales. Instead, Stock will rely on four regional presidents/general managers, to oversee the No. 4 player in the LBM industry, according to the Home Channel News Top 350 rankings.

A man who worked at a Raleigh, N.C., lumberyard was arrested and jailed on March 9 for allegedly using a credit card belonging to his employer, according to an article in the News and Observer. 

Kendryl Direlle Garner, 42, was accused of making $797.40 in unauthorized purchases in April using the credit card of his employer, American Woodyards, a supplier of custom, cut and specialty lumber.

Joel Key has joined Raleigh, N.C.-based Healthy Home Diagnostics (HHD) as general manager of the indoor air quality solution company.

Key brings to the company 20 years of experience as an HVAC, plumbing and refrigeration contractor and 13 years of experience as a state-licensed contractor. He developed a pilot training program for weatherization technicians that lead to the state-approved training procedure used in North Carolina.
