Haier America announced Paul Riley has been appointed VP sales and marketing for major appliances.

Riley will be accountable for the creation and exectuion of the go-to-market strategy for all categories, the company announced.

Riley has held many sales and marketing roles throughout his 15-year career with GE Appliances, where he most recently worked as senior brand and product line marketing manager. He also led tGE's efforts to redefine the Monogram brand through a preferred builder program, a consumer facing rebate program and brand distribution strategy.

The Edwards (ESL) and Interlogix brands are recalling 33 models of their 400 and 500 series smoke alarms, citing a tendency to malfunction.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the alarms have been found to fail to alert consumers of a fire due to radio frequency interference.

There have yet to be any incidents or injuries reported, however.

APA – The Engineered Wood Association has released APA System Report SR-405: Fire Protection of Floors Constructed with Prefabricated Wood I-Joists for Compliance with the 2012 International Residential Code. The report provides several practical systems for design and construction of fire-resistant floor assemblies built with wood I-joists that satisfy the requirements of 2012 IRC Section R501.3.

Outdoor power equipment company Troy-Bilt introduced the Jet leaf blower that will be sold at Lowe’s stores.

The Jet uses a fan that spins at 130 m.p.h. while bringing in and pressurizing 650 cubic feet per minute of air volume.

Calling it a landmark occasion, Shelbyville, Indiana-based Knauf Insulation completed its acquisition of Guardian Insulation. 

The transaction includes Guardian Fiberglass, a leading supplier of insulation products for the construction market, and Guardian Laminated Building Products. Guardian Fiberglass will be integrated into Knauf Insulation and Guardian Laminated Building Products has become Silvercote, LLC.

The deal puts more than double the production capacity of glass mineral wool at Knauf’s disposal.

Terms of the deal were not released.

The Window and Door Manufacturers Association's (2015) recently released Window and Entry Door 2014 U.S. Market Study shows continued growth for the residential window market through 2015. 

The study, prepared, researched and analyzed by Metrostudy and the Virginia Center for Housing Research at Virginia Tech, forecasts overall residential window market growth of 9.1% for 2014 and 8.3% for 2015. This follows market growth of 10% in 2013.

Eagle Materials, producer of basic building materials from wallboard to cement, reported second quarter revenues of $266.3 million, up 17% from the same three-month period last year.

In the quarter, sales of gypsum wallboard increased 17% to $112.7 million. The company implemented a wallboard price increase effective January 2014 and recently announced a 15% price increase effective in January 2015.

The company’s total net earnings increased 25% to $37.7 million.

One of these includes the first-ever pocket knife from DeWalt, a folding model featuring a stainless steel blade that's designed for on-the-job tasks like removing strapping from lumber. The knife, which features a combination straight and serrated edge, hit shelves this July.

Along with a breeze, the fan brings versatility to the job site. It can run off a variety of battery packs as well as an AC power cord.

Huntersville, North Carolina-based impact driver company Irwin has unveiled the second phase of its Impact Performance Series line of accessories. This phase expands the line beyond fastening into extracting, drilling and power bits.

Philips Lighting is recalling about 7,500 units of its “Lightolier” brand AF4SY Decorative Glass Lens after receiving one report of the glass lens breaking. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the decorative glass lens has displayed a tendency to shatter, posing a risk to consumers below.

Massachusetts-based lighting company Osram Sylvania announced that it would be expanding it’s lineup of LED light bulbs. This month, Lowe’s will start stocking the seven new bulbs.

Among the company’s new LED bulb offerings are the ones meant to replace 40- and 60-watt incandescent bulbs. The 60-watt LED bulb puts out the same amount of light as a 60-watt incandescent with 8.5 watts of electricity.

Electronics and appliance manufacturer LG announced three new additions to its lineup of four-door refrigerators this week.

The new models all feature the LG CustomChill drawer, which allows owners to organize and quickly access favorites foods and drinks.
