Kamloops, British Columbia-based Thompson River Veneer Products Ltd., a dry veneer supplier and plywood producer, has joined the APA - The Engineered Wood Association.

The APA Board of Trustees approved the Canadian plywood manufacturer for membership, making it the fourth supplier of its kind to join the organization this year.

WOLF has a new collection in its arsenal. Its Poly-Ash Moulding is a new line of exterior trim made with more than 70% recycled material that seeks to correct the limitations of wood and PVC.

The mouldings are made with Boral TruExterior Trim and are manufactured entirely in the U.S. They're also covered by Boral TruExterior Trim's 20-year limited warranty once painted.

Designed with durability in mind, the mouldings offer resistance to rotting, cracking, splitting and termites, and they eliminate the need for end-sealing or special adhesives.

Federal Way, Washington-based Weyerhaeuser Company announced the successful closing of a deal to separate its home-building business from its forest products core.

The previously announced "Reverse Morris Trust" transaction results in the merger of a TRI Pointe Homes subsidiary and Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Co., Weyerhaeusers’ home-building business. WRECO becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of TRI Pointe.

Atlanta, Georgia-based Zep Commercial has released a fast-acting Quick Clean Disinfectant, which portends to kill 99.9% of bacteria in just five seconds.

According to the company, Quick Clean Disinfectant does the job in a fraction of the time. Many popular anti-bacterial cleaners can take up to 10 minutes to work.

It uses a special quaternary active blend that kills germs quickly, including viruses and bacteria like Rhinovirus, Norovirus and Salmonella.

The selection process was extensive for Tyler Patterson, Monkey Bars flooring specialist. “Quickly, I found that Swisstrax provides the best quality, products and durability,” said Patterson.

Caledonia, Wisconsin-based CalStar Products is now offering its brick and Thru-Wall units in a split-face option.

Split-face bricks have a textured face for a more natural, rustic look that mimics the appearance of natural stones. As per the name, the backside of the brick is smooth and straight for ease of installation.

The split-face option will be available for CalStar's 8"x24" facing units and Monarch bricks, as well as the new Ambassador brick.

Stanley Black & Decker is recalling certain Porter-Cable routers after discovering that uninsulated handles present an electrical shock risk.

The fixed-based routers and router bases have not been responsible for any reported injuries or incidents so far, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

ABC Supply Co. has honored Frank Novascone III, managing partner at the distributor's Whicita, Kansas branch, with a Ken Hendricks Award.

The Ken Hendricks Award recognizes ABC Supply employees who embody the values put forth by late founder Ken Hendricks together with co-founder and wife Diane Hendricks.

According to the company, Novascone knew he wanted to run his grandfather's roofing supply store from the time he was a child. In 2002, he stepped into those shoes when ABC Supply (which had purchased the business in 1997) made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

AZEK, Home Depot and OrePac all teamed up Thursday, June 19th to help spruce up a garden for disabled vets in San Bernardino, California.

The Veterans Exploration Garden in Speicher Memorial Park received a new AZEK Paver walkway (which is made with 95% recycled materials) for smoother wheelchair access.

GE is following closely on the heels of Quirky's recent announcement that it was launching a smart-home offshoot (called Wink) for incubating various technologies, as well as an integrated app to connect them all.

The GE Link connected LED 60-watt replacement (A19) bulb is a smart LED bulb that's enabled by the Wink app -- one of several new (and incumbent) products that are beginning to emerge within the Wink suite.

Ontario, Canada-based Wolf Steel is recalling several of its Napolean-model propane gas fireplaces, citing a laceration hazard.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the glass front has displayed a tendency to break due to the pressure from the propane gas igniting.

There has been one reported incident so far in Canada, in which a customer had to seek medical attention after getting cuts to the face and neck. No incidents have been reported in the U.S.

This latest addition to virtual reality-based home improvement applications -- most recently exemplified by Lowe's -- helps consumers visualize paint colors in their own homes.

The company, which took root in 1999 in Kansas City, recently relocated to a larger facility in Lenexa.

GE has donated $10,000 to HomeAid, a nonprofit that works to provide housing for the homeless. The 25-year-old, California-based charity is working toward building 32 projects in 2014.

GE -- which also donates appliances to HomeAid on an ongoing basis -- has donated some $750,000 to the charity since 1989 in money and in-kind donations.

Krylon is trying to speed up spray paint projects with its new line of Dual Superbond Paint + Primer.

The new paint -- which is available in 24 colors -- uses a formula that prevents rust and cuts out the need for primer or a sander, removing an entire step from metal painting projects.

Dual Superbond dries in about 25 minutes and adheres to such substances as melamine and plastic.

Net income for home builder Lennar was $137.7 million for the second quarter of 2014, up slightly from the $137.4 million it reported for the same period of 2013.  Revenues from home sales increased 28% in the second quarter of 2014 to $1.6 billion from $1.3 billion in the second quarter of 2013.

The rise in revenue accompanied a rise in the number of homes Lennar delivered -- from 4,449 homes in the second quarter of 2013 to the 4,976 it delivered this past quarter.
