Beloit, Wisconsin-based building products distributor ABC Supply Co., will open its first North Dakota location. 

The official opening date for the Fargo store is Aug. 18.

Kodiak Building Partners purchased substantially all the assets of AO, Inc., a Dallas based fabricator and distributor of doors, frames and hardware to commercial contractors for the office build-out market.

The move brings Denver, Colorado-based Kodiak deeper into Texas, and follows acquisitions of Gulf & Basco and Factory Builder Stores.

US LBM Holdings has expanded its footprint yet again via the acquisition of Brooklyn-based Samuel Feldman Lumber Co.

Owners Robert and Kenneth Feldman will remain on-board, with Kenneth stepping in as president of Feldman Lumber.

Stock Building Supply's Albuquerque branch is the latest company to be carrying PureColor Prefinished Interior Doors, which uses a high-performance, odorless, zero-VOC finish.

The doors are made with sustainable, recycled-material High Density Fiberboard with a hollow or solid core, and they come in a variety of color choices topped off with PureColor EvenGrain finishes.

Builders FirstSource achieved its highest sales level since 2006 as it swung to a profit in the second quarter ended June 30.

The Dallas-based pro dealer reported sales of $426.5 million, up 7.1% from the same quarter last year. Net income was $10.6 million, compared to a net loss of $48 million in the first quarter last year.

The Indiana Lumber & Builder’s Supply Association will host the 20th Sycamore Scramble Aug. 7 at Oak Tree Golf Course in Plainfield, Indiana.

This event benefits the Blair F. Collings Scholarship Program, which is one of the largest single scholarship granting programs in the LBM industry. 

The scholarship program is named to honor the memory of Blair Collings, the son of Ferguson Lumber owner Joe Collings, a past chairman of the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association.

This week, Fresno California’s Weyerhaeuser Distribution center is commemorating 35 years in business this week.

Located at 3267 S. Willow Ave., the Fresno location is one of Washington-based Weyerhaeuser’s five distribution centers in California, and one of 23 in the U.S.

Among its clients who purchase various lumber products like decking and housewrap, as well as siding and trim, are White Pine Lumber, High Sierra Lumber and 84 Lumber. Beyond just wood, the center has on-site estimate services and rebar cutting.

Kent, Ohio-based Carter Lumber continues down the expansion trail by opening a new location on the north side of Charlotte. 

The facility located at 4401 Pete Brown Rd. in Charlotte made its first deliveries Monday, five days after taking possession.

Snavely Fores Products has promoted Elizabeth Grieff to the role of engineered wood products manager.

In her new role, Grieff will oversee the department, which represents a cornerstone of the Snavely legacy of being among the first to produce engineered wood.

In her former role, she was working as an engineered wood technician since joining the company in 2012.

"She has shown exemplary service and her promotion was an obvious choice to continue to lead us on the path of growth," said Bryan Kirit, general manager of Snavely Forest Greensboro.

The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association is calling on pro dealers to tell Congress that the industry needs "E-fairness."

In an NLBMDA alert, the association raised the volume on its call for the approval of the Marketplace Fairness Act, which is making the rounds in the House of Representatives. The legislation would level the playing field between local retailers like lumberyards and out-of-state Internet retailers.

Lumber Liquidators blamed the unusually harsh winter for interruptions in its long purchase cycle during the first quarter of 2014, though sales still managed to increase 6.9% for the retailer.

Total sales came in at $246.3 million for the three months ended March 31, compared to $230.4 million last year. The company estimates that weather was to blame for an adverse impact on sales in as many as 135 of its 331 store loctaions, declining an average of 3.8%. In all other stores, sales increased 14.6%.

Lumber Liquidators is getting ready to launch its 11th annual April Sale, which began as a "Black Friday" tradition associated with tax season.

"It's not by chance that our big sale is in April," said founder and chairman Tom Sullivan. "In 2004, my accountant came to me and warned that we needed to pay taxes by April 15th and that we were not going to have enough funds, so we quickly put together a huge sale to offer our overstock hardwood flooring at incredible prices. People loved the deals and we paid our taxes just in time!"

A subsidiary of Universal Forest Products has purchased a 50% ownership interest in Upshur Forest Products, which owns sawmill operations in Gilmer, Texas.

According to a statement released by UFPI Monday, the acquisition will help expand the company's footprint in East Texas and western Louisiana, supplying raw material to nearby UFPI affiliates and to new industrial operations that will be established at one of the mill locations.

Eco Building Products, Inc. is beefing up its production through the purchase of additional automated coating equipment and the use of a currently operational facility in Augusta, Ga.

The increased production capacity will help boost panel production to meet increasing big box demands, especially in the Northeastern U.S, the company said.
