The latest in the series of HGTV Dream Homes is in Park City, Utah, near the Provo River.

Lumber Liquidators and Sherwin-Williams are among the sponsors of the HGTV Dream Home 2012. Bissell vacuums and Delta Faucet Co. are also co-sponsors of the Dream Home, which serves as the grand prize in an HGTV promotional sweepstakes.

In a spirited conversation on CNBC Tuesday morning, Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone delivered pointed comments on protestors and the education system. Ultimately, though, he described himself as bullish on America. 

Langone, currently chairman and president of Invemed Associates, had this advice to protestors in the Occupy Wall Street movement: "Stop bitching about where you are and do something about it."

He also pointed to weakness across the board in America's education system.

KraftMaid, the industry’s largest cabinet manufacturer, has laid off 175 hourly workers at factories in Orwell and Middlefield, Ohio, according to an article in the Warren Tribune Chronicle.

A spokeswoman for parent company Masco told the newspaper that, "Prolonged economic conditions have severely impacted the housing market, whether new construction or remodeling. The current climate remains challenging."

A report released Friday by Thomson Reuters and the University of Michigan found that consumer confidence in the United States rose unexpectedly in October, a signal that an economic recovery process may still be intact.

The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan final index of consumer sentiment climbed to 60.9 from 59.4 in September, beating Bloomberg News economists’ projections of a drop to 58.

The preliminary reading for the month was 57.5.

Whirlpool has announced that Roy Templin, EVP and CFO, will retire from the company. As part of the planned transition, Templin will remain in his current capacity until April 2012 to complete Whirlpool's year-end reporting and other transitional items. At that time, Larry Venturelli -- currently SVP corporate controller, chief accounting officer and CFO for Whirlpool International -- will succeed Templin as EVP and CFO.

Four Joplin, Mo., associates of a Home Depot store destroyed by a tornado May 22 were flown to Atlanta for the company's annual shareholders meeting. 

CEO Frank Blake introduced Jason Smith, the manager on duty the night of the storm, Joe Barbosa, Joe Cabalero and Steve Cope, the store's manager. The four men received extended applause as well as Angel Awards, given to associates who help save lives.

Canadian home-improvement retailer RONA is still looking for commercial and pro-oriented acquisitions in the United States -- and it has as much as C$300 million (US$316 million) to spend, according to a Reuters article. 

RONA CEO Robert Dutton told Reuters in an interview last week that his Quebec-based company is focusing on U.S. distributors or commercial and professional-orientated units, rather than customer-facing retail stores.

Chicago -- After a year in which consolidated wholesale sales were up 2.1%, Ace Hardware Corp. is planning for sales growth of 3.0% in 2011.

"It feels good to be back in the positives," said Dorvin Lively, Ace CFO, speaking to co-op members assembled during the Ace Spring Convention and Exhibits in Chicago last week.

Some 30 Ace Hardware stores in the Chicago region are the latest retail outlets to offer ink cartridge refill services through a company called Ink-O-Dem.

Ink-O-Dem's ink cartridge refilling service is operating at about 4,500 Walgreens stores in the United States. In and around Chicago, the service is operating in retailers including two Micro Center stores in Chicago and Westmont, Fry's Electronics in Downers Grove, and hundreds of Walgreens, the company said.

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia posted sales and revenue declines in 2010, a transformative year for the multi-faceted company, according to Charles Koppelman, executive chairman and principal executive officer.

MSLO posted revenues of $230.8 million in 2010, down 5.6%. Operating loss for the full year was $8.7 million, compared with an operating loss of $12.0 million in 2009.
