Multichannel retailing has been a buzzword since long before Jeff Bezos first reported a profit at Amazon.com (that was back in January 2002). Today, the biggest home improvement retailers are still at it, walking shoulder-to-shoulder into the multichannel future. Well, at least, they sound a lot alike.

ABC Supply, the nation’s largest distributor of roofing, has promoted Mike Boggs to director of operations, a newly created position. In his new role, Boggs is responsible for championing, developing and implementing critical operational initiatives, including continued improvement of the company’s Customer Service Delivery System (CSDS), inventory management, fleet optimization, outside sales management, response to storms, and the leveraging of technology to enhance internal service quality and customer service.

The Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Do it Best Corp., fresh from its October Market in Indianapolis, is advancing a slate of initiatives both large and small. Projects range from reprinting its field staff’s business cards to building what it calls a digital World Class Commerce Center. And as CEO Bob Taylor sees it, they are all in service of one overarching goal: serving the members.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Amazon.com will continue to fight against a California law passed July 1, which requires the company to collect a 7.25% sales tax. Amazon said that the law is unconstitutional, and has now announced that it will make the case against the sales tax to voters, in hopes that they will vote to overturn it.

Epicor Software Corp., a provider of business enterprise solutions, has named Pervez Qureshi as its CEO, effective immediately. Qureshi served as CEO and president of Activant Solutions Inc., which was combined with Epicor following the acquisition of both companies by funds advised by Apax Partners. The deal closed on May 16, 2011.

Denver-based ProBuild redesigned its website, adding new features and functionality to streamline information access and better serve its customers, the company said.

With research gathered customer focus groups, the Denver-based pro dealer added search capabilities to ProBuild.com that provide customers with specific product and service information down to the store level.
