The six finalists represent a range of outdoor living trends, including the use of natural materials, decks and porches that maximize views, outdoor lounge areas and historic restorations/historic-looking new construction. Now, the public will determine the grand prize winners through crowd-sourced voting for the following finalists:

Perennial Wood porch flooring expanded distribution in the South Atlantic through Snavely Forest Products.

The new line of long-lasting, real wood, tongue-and-groove porch flooring is the first Perennial Wood product to be distributed in the South Atlantic. Perennial Wood is a product of Kingsport, Tenn.-based Eastman Chemical Co.

The move expands the porch product availability to professionals and homeowners in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The Empire Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of New Zealand-based Tenon LTD, has been selected as the exclusive distribution partner for Eastman Chemical Company’s new Perennial Wood decking product into Lowe’s stores.

Eastman is a Fortune 500 company with more than 80 years of history in acetylating wood pulp, according to the announcement. In 2010, 13% of Eastman’s total revenues were derived from sales of raw materials to the building and construction industry.

Minneapolis-based Valspar Corp. has announced the appointment of Cynthia Arnold, Ph.D. as SVP and chief technology officer.

Dr. Arnold will report to William Mansfield, chairman and CEO. In this new role Arnold will lead Valspar’s global technology activities.
