BlueLinx has announced that its onCENTER Engineered Lumber products are now included in the product library of MiTek's Sapphire Structure software.

With version 7.3.5 Service Pack 1, released June 28, 2012, users of Sapphire Structure can now specify onCENTER BLI Joists, onCENTER LVL and onCENTER Rim Board, and the MiTek Single Member Design Engine will analyze each member using material properties provided by BlueLinx.

Speaking at The Home Depot’s 2012 Investor and Analyst Conference in Atlanta, Home Depot executive VP merchandising Craig Menear revved up the power tool rhetoric.

Menear said the company intends to defend its position as power tool market share leader.

He also described power tools as a category with a relatively high vulnerability to online competitors. One of the best defenses is a large fleet.

Progressive Solutions, a leading provider of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for producers, manufacturers and distributers in the lumber and building materials industry, has announced an agreement to be purchased by Solarsoft Business Systems, a London-based information technology firm. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

X-Rite, Inc., parent company of design industry color provider Pantone, has agreed to be purchased by Danaher through a cash tender offer to acquire all of the outstanding shares of common stock at a purchase price of $5.55 per share. The deal is valued at approximately $625 million, including debt assumed and net of cash acquired.

X-Rite develops, manufactures, markets and supports innovative color solutions through measurement systems, software, color standards and services. Upon closing, X-Rite will be part of Danaher's product identification group.

Lowe’s has partnered with Deluxe Corp. in a deal that will offer Lowe’s commercial customers services like web design and hosting, search engine marketing and optimization, logo design, and emailing marketing. Deluxe’s products and services will be offered through LowesforPros.com website.

Lowe's new Iris Smart Home solution is slated to be available in Lowe's stores and through Lowes.com in mid-2012.

Iris is described as an affordable system that will give homeowners the ability to control and interact with their homes from anywhere. Energy and technology company Genability will be used by Lowe's in its new cloud-based smart home solution called Iris.

The DW089K is for professionals tasked with residential and commercial applications, such as installing cabinets, drop ceilings, chair rails or doors and windows. The Line Laser can also be used when installing floor and wall tile or mapping wall layout.

Gloucester, Mass.-based Rule is promoting greener gardens through a new solar-powered RainPerfect pump system designed for use with rain barrels.

The product made its debut in January, and is now working its way to consumers nationwide, according to the company. It was developed and produced by ITT Corp.'s Flow Control division.

Houston-based hardlines co-op Handy Hardware pointed to sales growth of 4.1% in its first quarter of 2011.

In a statement released Monday, the company also addressed the challenges resulting from its transition to a new computer operating system during the first quarter of 2011.

"We have gotten past the worst of this transition, and our numbers are climbing back up to our historical service level marks," said Tina Kirbie, president.

Twin brothers Craig and Jeff Smith opened Twins Ace Hardware in Fairfax, Va., in a 16,000-sq.-ft. store on Main Street.

The brothers have a combined 19 years experience in hardware retailing with the independent chain Strosniders Hardware. 

The new store, which has no other connection to Strosniders, is located in the Main Street Marketplace Shopping Center next to a Walgreens.

In the 1980s, when Lowe’s decided to change from a chain of southeastern contractor yards to a nationwide big-box retailer, the company knew it wouldn’t happen overnight. But a steady vision, stable leadership and good relations with Wall Street made the goal a reality. Today, the North Carolina-based company has more than 1,725 warehouse-sized stores in all 50 states plus Canada and Mexico. 

Now it’s time for another change.
