Beloit, Wis.-based ABC Supply Co. promoted Todd Buehl to the position of chief financial officer and treasurer, effective April 1. Buehl, who joined ABC Supply as vice president and chief administrative officer in 2012, succeeds Kendra Story, who is retiring as chief financial officer and treasurer after nearly 32 years with the company.

Porter brings more than 18 years of experience working with both public and private companies. Most recently, he served as the CFO at Signiant, a global software provider focusing on the transferring of digital files. Previously, Porter was the VP finance at Phase Forward, a data management solutions provider.

Ken Hannah, a former senior VP at Home Depot, has been named the new CFO at J.C. Penney.

Hannah brings more than 20 years of finance, operations and audit experience from a wide range of companies that include General Electric, Boeing and The Home Depot. He will report to chief operating officer Mike Kramer.

Brenda McCormick, Valspar’s assistant controller and senior finance director, was promoted to Controller, according to a Feb. 16 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). McCormick also served as  finance director at Valspar. 

In previous experience, McCormick held positions as director financial reporting, planning and analysis at Lawson Software and director financial reporting - consumer products at International Multifoods.

Manufacturer Kleer Lumber has announced the appointment of Tom Demers as its first chief financial officer. Demers is a charter employee of Kleer Lumber, and previously served as the company’s VP finance. In his new role, Demers will focus on improving operational efficiencies and service levels and will strive to maintain Kleer’s competitive position for its expanding customer base. He reports directly to company president and CEO Walt Valentine.

Tim-Br Marts has appointed John Steen as CFO. A senior financial executive, Steen has operational experience across a range of sectors, primarily in agribusiness/retail, manufacturing, oil and gas, and energy.

Steen, who will be based out of the company’s Calgary, AB office, will report directly to president and CEO Tim Urquhart.

He has held executive roles at a number of organizations, including UFA Co-operative Limited, Ontario Power Authority, and in South Africa at Teves Group.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced a settlement with the former chief financial officer of Beazer Homes USA to recover his bonus compensation and stock sale profits from the period when the Atlanta-based home builder was committing accounting fraud, according to an Aug. 30 announcement.

Whirlpool has announced that Roy Templin, EVP and CFO, will retire from the company. As part of the planned transition, Templin will remain in his current capacity until April 2012 to complete Whirlpool's year-end reporting and other transitional items. At that time, Larry Venturelli -- currently SVP corporate controller, chief accounting officer and CFO for Whirlpool International -- will succeed Templin as EVP and CFO.

Dorvin Lively, the former chief financial officer and executive VP of Ace Hardware, has been hired at RadioShack as the company’s CFO, chief administrative officer and executive VP, effective immediately. 

Lively, 53, left the Oak Brook, Ill, buying group on Aug. 10. He joined Ace in March 2008 as senior VP and CFO and was promoted to executive VP in December 2010.

In this newly created position, Ramig is responsible for all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs and financial oversight and planning. He reports directly to Michael Schuster, president of MJSI.

Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based PulteGroup has appointed Robert "Bob" O'Shaughnessy as executive VP and chief financial officer, effective May 31. He will be responsible for the corporate accounting, treasury, tax, investor relations, audit, information technology and asset management functions, including the mortgage and title company. O'Shaughnessy will report directly to Richard J. Dugas Jr., chairman, president and CEO.

For the first time since 2005, The Home Depot and Lowe’s Cos. both delivered positive comparable-store sales in all four quarters of 2010. Last year was also the first year both companies showed an increase in full-year sales since 2005. 


These trends are strong evidence that the worst of the economic cycle has passed for the two home improvement retail giants.
