A public high school principal has been accused of stealing light bulbs, drywall screws and mold spray from a Brooklyn Home Depot.

According to a report from WABC-TV, Santiago Mayol, the principal at the High School for Language and Diplomacy in Manhattan, was arrested earlier this month for shoplifting. Mayol reportedly makes $140,000 a year.

A former New Jersey police officer accused of stealing approximately $500 of laminate flooring from Home Depot has been sentenced to one year of probation, according to an article in the New Jersey Herald.

An off-duty police officer in central New Jersey was convicted of shoplifting in a jury trial on June 14, according to a press release issued by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s office. 

Darnell Esdaile, 46, a Freehold Borough police office, was arrested at Home Depot in Freehold Township on Nov. 11, 2010. He was detained by loss prevention officers after exiting the store with laminate flooring he had not paid for. The merchandise was valued at approximately $500.

A suspected bank robber in Santa Fe, N.M. was arrested this week after a Lowe’s employee uncovered more than $48,000 in stolen cash from a store trash can, according to an article in the Albuquerque Journal. 

Jaime Jesus Sanchez-Ramos, age 23, was arrested on April 10 and charges with an April 2 robbery at U.S. Bank. The suspect, who was wearing a green hooded jacket and a ski mask, allegedly entered the building and, at gunpoint, demanded money from a teller. Sanchez-Ramos fled with a box of cash stuffed with $52,650, according an FBI affidavit filed in court.

An organized retail theft ring that targeted 70 Home Depot stores in six states has been taken down by multi-agency task force after the arrest of three men in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Two other suspects are still be sought.

An Albuquerque man arrested for allegedly stealing from Home Depot and Lowe’s on multiple occasions was using homeless people to return the merchandise for refunds, according to a news report on KRQE.

Rodney Segura was apprehended inside a Lowe’s store on Sept. 28 by detectives who had been following the suspect, according to the report. Lowe’s loss prevention officers said they also had Segura under surveillance.

Copper shoplifting is on the rise at home improvement stores across the country, but in the Fort Meyers, Fla., area, thieves may have come up with a novel way to steal the valuable metal. According to a story in the Fort Myers News Press, two men have been arrested for repeatedly shoplifting items from a Lowe’s store in Cape Coral, Fla., returning the items for store credit and then purchasing copper tubing, which they would sell to a recycling yard.

A man in Hamilton, Ontario pled guilty on June 28 for breaking and entering a Canadian Tire store last May and stealing lawnmowers and barbecues, according to local news reports.

Richard Jessop, age 27, was arrested along with two other accomplices when police pulled over their U-Haul truck for a routine traffic stop. Officers looked in the back of the vehicle and saw the stolen merchandise, along with bolt cutters and a pair of gloves.

A K-9 officer in pursuit of two suspected shoplifters was able to recover tools stolen from a Lowe’s store in Burlington, N.C., according to a report by the Burlington Police Department.

On Dec. 12 at 4 p.m., a Sears loss prevention officer notified police of a larceny in progress and provided a description of both the suspect and the getaway vehicle, a white Chevrolet Lumina. When police arrived on the scene, they observed the vehicle nearly strike a pedestrian before it left the Sears parking lot and crashed into a tree.
