The Exporter of the Year award in the Building/Construction/Hardware category was presented to Hurd’s President and CEO Dominic Truniger and Director of International Sales Scott Klieforth during the Asia/Pacific Business Outlook conference in Los Angeles.

More than 35 years after a DieHard battery charged a frigid car on a frozen lake in International Falls, Minn., as part of a television ad campaign, the battery brand is back at it. 

This time, it’s alkaline.

On Sunday during an ESPN2 broadcast, DieHard will debut its television commercial for DieHard alkaline batteries. Instead of a Chevrolet Chevelle driving across ice, the new commercial will show a battery-powered remote control car.

What began quite innocently as a pet project turned into a national movement for Anders Lewendal, the Bozeman, Mont., builder who has since gained wide acclaim for constructing a house made entirely from U.S.-made products.

Initially, Lewendal set out to build an “efficient, affordable and environmentally healthy” home for a client whose daughter has cystic fibrosis. In researching the building materials and parts required for the project, Lewendal was struck with this idea: Why not go for all-American parts and materials.

The Building America Retrofit Alliance is promoting the Cool Energy House, described as a "deep-energy remodeling project" optimized for peak energy performance.

The purpose of the project is to bring attention to the new energy-efficient systems and strategies that can impact traditional remodeling projects. 

Among the peak performance energy measures of the Cool Energy House -- located at 11068 Bayshore Drive, Windermere, Fla. -- are pool pump replacement, sealed attic, shading, energy efficient lighting, cool roofing, ventilation and dehumidification.

A list compiled by 24/7 Wall St., based on both shareholder and consumer satisfaction, placed Sears in ninth place on the Ten Most Hated Companies in America. The Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based company was one of two retailers – the other being Best Buy at no. 6 – that made the publication’s list. Facebook ranked first on the list, followed by American Airlines and AT&T.

In a spirited conversation on CNBC Tuesday morning, Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone delivered pointed comments on protestors and the education system. Ultimately, though, he described himself as bullish on America. 

Langone, currently chairman and president of Invemed Associates, had this advice to protestors in the Occupy Wall Street movement: "Stop bitching about where you are and do something about it."

He also pointed to weakness across the board in America's education system.

Floor and Decor Outlets of America has opened another unit, this time in the Chicago market, according to an article in the Chicago Daily Herald.

The 90,000-sq.-ft. warehouse store in Lombard, a suburb of Chicago, opened Nov. 3 and carries hard-surface flooring such as ceramic tile, hardwood, bamboo, stone and laminate.

Through its Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, the company is providing funds for school systems across America through Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grants, Teach for America, Project L.I.F.T., Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Lowe’s Scholarships and Carl Buchan Scholarships.

Floor & Decor Outlets of America has opened again, this time in Orange County, Calif., according to an article in the Orange County Register. 

The 70,000-square-foot store opened in Santa Ana on Sept. 1. Founded in 2000, Atlanta-based Floor & Decor operates 25 stores in 15 U.S. metropolitan markets.

The 150-year milestone is a rarity in corporate America. Even more rare is a family business successfully handed down across five consecutive generations. Requarth Lumber -- founded in 1860 by Frederick August Requarth in Dayton, Ohio -- is one of those companies.

By itself, the milestone doesn’t pay the bills, and it doesn’t close deals. But the distinction does have a real-world value, according to Alan Pippenger, president and great-great grandson of Frederick Requarth.
