San Francisco -- The show floor of the PCBC builders show here had more than 300 building product manufacturers and service providers to tout their latest wares.

Billed as the "largest home-building trade show representing the West Coast," the PCBC theme in 2014 is New Directions. As described by a joint statement from PCBC co-chairs Layne Marceau of Shea Homes and Colleen Edwards of EMC Creative/River Islands: "Opportunities are plentiful, but getting to them will require new directions, not to mention new smarts and skill sets for your people and your organization."

In the conference pressroom, the chatter included high praise for keynote speaker Benjamin Zander, conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. And on the show floor, a flow of builders and contractors buzzed about the California legislative environment and the varied market conditions on the West Coast and nationally. And there was no shortage of products and solutions for the modern builder.
