Twin brothers Craig and Jeff Smith opened Twins Ace Hardware in Fairfax, Va., in a 16,000-sq.-ft. store on Main Street.
The brothers have a combined 19 years experience in hardware retailing with the independent chain Strosniders Hardware.
The new store, which has no other connection to Strosniders, is located in the Main Street Marketplace Shopping Center next to a Walgreens.
“We were looking for the ideal space for quite some time,” said co-owner Jeff Smith “We believe we’ve found it here in the City of Fairfax. We love the area, and our business blends in well with the vibrant shops and restaurants in Old Town.”
The store puts an emphasis on environmental responsibility, according to the brothers. In addition to completing a lighting upgrade to energy-efficient fixtures in the store, Twins Ace offers free recycling of CFLs, alkaline and rechargeable batteries, cell phones and mercury-containing thermostats. Among the "green" products on the shelves are Mythic Paint, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day and Seventh Generation cleaners, according to the store.
