Pro-Build has announced plans to construct a fully automated truss plant, featuring technology not currently used in the building industry. Partnering with Florida-based TCT Manufacturing, the nation’s largest lumberyard chain expects to increase labor productivity fivefold using a robotic system that automates cutting, material handling, fabrication and stacking.
The new technology is also expected to optimize lumber use and greatly increase production speed.
Aspecific site has not yet been chosen for the facility, according to Pro-Build. The company indicated that the new truss plant would be located in a “major growth area” in the southeastern United States, however. Operations are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2008.
