Lasko, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission, has launched a voluntary recall of 4.8 million box-style fans due to the possibility of hazards associated with an electrical failure in the fan’s motor.
Lasko has received seven reports of fires associated with motor failures, including two house fires and one barn fire, resulting in extensive property damage. No injuries have been reported.
The fans, manufactured in the United States under the Lasko or Galaxy brand, sold at mass merchandisers nationwide from July 2002 through December 2005 for $12 to $25.
Owners of the fan should contact Lasko to receive a free fused plug safety adapter. For more information, visit laskoproducts.com.
