The 23rd Annual Golden Hammer Awards proved this year that home channel retailers can innovate, focus and shine, even in sturdy market headwinds.
From a quirky alien-themed ad campaign from Stanley Tools to Tractor Supply’s combination of rural charm and fierce business sense, this year’s Golden Hammer Award winners highlighted the best of the industry.
“I don’t have to tell anyone in this room that we are having a challenging year,” said HCN publisher Jeff Arlen in his opening comments at the awards ceremony. “But as all of you know, challenges can be turned into opportunities, with aggressive, perceptive strategies; innovation and follow-up implementation.”
Winners were chosen in dozens of categories—earlier this year, the entire readership of Home Channel News received ballots to help select the winners. Additionally, HCN’s Committee Choice awards were granted with input from a distinguished panel of executives from all sides of the home channel.
Committee members are: Lori Bossmann, vp-merchandising, marketing and advertising for Ace Hardware; Jay Brown, vp-merchandising for Do it Best; George Smith, president and CEO of Westlake Ace Hardware; Ken Post, senior vp-merchandising and marketing for Orgill; Kyle Walters, president and CEO of Elliott’s Hardware; Mike Clark, vp-general merchandise for Orchard Supply Hardware; and Steve Mahurin, True Value’s senior vp and chief merchandising officer.
