Building Materials Holding Corp. (BMHC) has announced that it will discontinue its residential framing and concrete operations in Tucson, Ariz., effective July 18, 2008. “Housing permits in the Tucson area have fallen sharply,” noted Stanley Wilson, BMHC’s president and chief operating officer, in a prepared statement. “We have to realign our operations accordingly.”

Approximately 180 employees will be affected by the closure, according to the company.

Earlier this week, the San Francisco-based pro dealer said it was integrating its two business units, BMC West and SelectBuild, into one organization and streamlining its 13 regions into seven. A number of underperforming units will be closed over the next six months as part of this consolidation, the company said, although the exact number and locations were not revealed.

SelectBuild will continue providing framing and concrete services from its Phoenix, Ariz., location. BMC West, the company’s distribution arm, also operates in the Phoenix market.
